How happy would you feel if you completed a book that could change your life?

“Some books leave us free and some books make us free.”

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

  • Do you crave to grow your self-compassion, but don't know where to start?
  • Do you find reading about self-compassion a bit dry and doesn't actually help develop your personal practice much?
  • Do you struggle to read the latest information, even though you know it might help you?

You are not alone!  Almost everyone we teach struggles to keep their self-compassion alive.  Making self-compassion a priority can be really hard, especially when the pressures of work and family life weigh us down.  This is why we created The Self-Compassion Book Club!

  • Do you want to learn about Self-compassion in a way that positively impacts your life?
  • Do you wish you could learn in a fun and connected way with other friendly book clubbers?
  • Do you find it much easier to learn with others who are also keen, curious, and committed?

The Self-Compassion Book Club provides a safe and supportive space to investigate self-compassion, your personal application, and differing perspectives from experts in the field, to help us grow and flourish.

Showing up to class once a week to learn and grow together is the easiest and most fun way to build your self-compassion muscles!  Where's the fun in reading alone?  Why not enjoy lively discussions, profound inquiry and ask questions in a safe and encouraging space?  All points of view are welcome and help us expand our awareness, nourish our critical thinking and nurture our self-compassion in daily life.

If you are tired of feeling stuck, fed up with trying on your own, and want to dive into cutting-edge self-compassion, read on!

The Self-Compassion Book Club is a 12 week course offering a welcoming, safe, empathetic and confidential space to explore self-compassion topics.  We aim to keep a light-hearted hold on the material, even when it is challenging.  We practice self-compassion as we engage in the material!

Are you ready to roll up your sleeves and get curious?

All book clubbers are invited to spend each week reading and experimenting with the material and investigating your responses.  When we come together, we share our experiences about what has arisen, what insights have been gleaned and what has challenged us.  We get real about the obstacles that we face when we commit to being more self-compassionate.

Are you keen to learn with a bunch of awesome people?

Self-Compassion Book Clubbers commitment is strong.  The sharing is intimate and the insights are profound.   We learn together.  We grow together.  We laugh and cry together.  It is a delightful way to explore and deepen your self-compassion practice and the most wonderful way to remind yourself of your belonging.  We may not have the same point of view, however we benefit deeply by listening and exploring all points of view.  This is one of the magic qualities of connecting through our common humanity club.

Are you wanting to feel supported and encouraged as you learn?

Mindful Self-Compassion teachers Kathryn Lovewell and Liz Walker love being part of the self-compassion conversation.  Whilst they guide these sessions, there are no ‘experts’, ‘observers’ or ‘teachers’ in the club.  Kathryn and Liz are there to host and support the investigation.  Even though they are both highly experienced Mindful Self-Compassion teachers with years of daily practice, they are not teaching or providing therapy in this setting.

All Welcome!

Our Self-Compassion Book Club is open to all.  We believe inclusivity and common humanity makes our conversations, broader, richer and more diverse. Everyone is encouraged to share their discoveries, their difficulties and their questions. All participants contribute to our learning.  This makes for a very rich and often profound conversation and helps us all grow!  Whether you are new to self-compassion or are a seasoned practitioner, you will undoubtedly benefit from this potent coming together of caring, curious hearts and minds.

“I adore the Book Club!  While in some ways it is a lighter way into MSC, I have been touched by the depth and richness of the sharing which occurs in the common humanity clusters and in the group as a whole. I have done the programme several times, and each time I have learnt and experienced something new which has helped my practice to grow.”

Pauline Neary, Urban Escapee & Recovering Perfectionist

Awakening Joy is more than just another book about happiness. More than simply offering suggested strategies to change our behaviour, it uses time-tested practices to train the mind to learn new ways of thinking. The principles of the course are universal. In these times of economic uncertainty Awakening Joy shows we can get through hard times and use our experience to keep the our heart open while moving from discouragement to well-being, regardless of the external circumstances. Genuine well-being is not expensive. True happiness is not about acquiring anything, but rather about opening to the natural joy and aliveness right inside you.

Awakening Joy was enjoyed so much in one of our 2022 book clubs, it is returning due to popular demand.  We warmly invite you to join us!
